Welcome to Idle Gradient

This is an incremental/idle game where the goal is to create color combinations of red, green, and blue components in the RGB model format: (#red, #green, #blue).

Visit the IDLE GRADIENT tab for the main play area. Build a gradient from one color to another by creating red, green, and blue components of the colors. Purchase upgrades by spending Pixel Points which are gained for every completed color block. Pixel Points reset when a gradient is completed and the upgrades must be purchased again.

Visit the PRESTIGE STORE tab to buy permanent upgrades. Every time you complete a full gradient, you will be awarded with 1 Prestige Point. You can spend those points here to unlock automation, recycle (creating multiple blocks every time 1 is completed), custom start and end colors, and permanent increases to your starting Pixel Points. Prestige Points are kept through multiple rounds.

Visit the PROGRESS GOALS tab to complete pre-set goals. If you complete all the goals in a set, another set of goals will unlock and the gradient size will increase! Current there are 6 sets of goals and completing more colors does not progress the game.

Visit the SETTINGS tab to manually save your game (game automatically saves when a gradient is completed), or to reset and delete your current saved game.

He should've added multiples of 32

I found a bug, If you complete a gradient, then spam numbers while selecting one of the starting values,  you prestige points skyrocket

not a bug, pressing 2 gives you +10 prestige points as like a dev feature lol

i found a bug: when you unlock custom start set both start color and end color to black it instantly wins when you restart the gradient

Yeah. I think its because when a pixel is black it has no R/G/B to be filled, so when they're all black nothing needs color so its already done

When is the next update

Development is current on hold, sorry about that!

That's fine I totally get it, it's hard sometimes to deal with school/ work and continuously updating a game. The only reason I asked is that it seems you have only made the dark side of the rainbow and I have beaten that so I was just waiting for the next one so I could continue

You should add multiples of 32 next update

So... when is the update coming exactly?

Deleted 3 years ago

that's a debug feature not a bug

well them im dumb

It would be nice if the "progress goals" tab either saved your scroll position, or was just sorted newest to oldest.

As I progress down the goals, there are more colors to get, so I'm checking more often. But I have to scroll down to the one I'm working on.

Just a small nitpick :)

I really like the concept, and the execution is really neat. Lots of idle games quickly become "okay, now wait 3 hrs and come back when you can afford the next upgrade"

I'm enjoying the quick pace, and the strategy of trying to pick a gradient that includes multiple colors from the goal.

Thanks for the feedback! This is already on the table for the next update :)

I made it to the dark side of the rainbow, but I can't select 32 as a color value, only 0 and 64, so progression is locked.

same here

Thanks for reporting the bug! Hopefully I'll have an update out this week and it will include a fix to this.

You don't just get credit for the start and end colors. You get credit for everything in between too.

You'll get (32,32,32) half way along from (0,0,0) to (64,64,64)

Thanks for the tip. I actually wasn't getting credit last time because I had changed the starting color to gray, but after logging in today, it was reset to black, and I noticed I DID get credit. However, when I switched back to gray, and noticed I did NOT get credit until I changed back to black. So that seems like a glitch, maybe.

I've also noticed I have to end at 128, 64, 0 in order to achieve 64, 32, 0.

I can definately see this game going places. Just out of curiosity, any ETA on the next update?

Hopefully a small update to fix bugs by this week!

Recycle is a weird name for what it does. I had expected it to make it so that even when one of the colors (RGB) are filled—or totally unnecessary for the gradient—then it would still contribute to the others: recycling the color into the other colors. The actual effect I'd expect to be named something like "multiply" or "amplify": something to express that the effect is bigger.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try and think of a new name for it :)

you might want to host this on github. when you post a game update to itch, chances are, everyone's data is gonna get reset

I hope not, I'm using persistentDataPath which my understanding will keep the data :(

Really interesting and unique game. Keep up the good work!

So cool, thanks for checking it out!

so is it just the same 4 prestige upgrades the whole game?

Right now yes, this was made for a class project and more or less a proof-of-concept. But I'll have a larger content update sometime soon!

and why do bigger boards only give 1 prestige point does that not make them worst to get?

Good point, perhaps I could reconsider the amount they give. I'll look into it once the prestige store is more flushed out, thanks!

yeah those 2 things would help out a lot.

Not sure if this is a bug, but I played this game a couple of days ago. When I came back, the progress tab saved my level progress, but I was back to the beginning in the Idle Gradient Tab (1 Pixel Point, 4x4 grid).

Currently progress only saves the size of the grid and the goals unlocked. In a future update I'll try and include it to save the colors as well, thanks for taking a look!

(+1)

Progress percentage stayed at 0% even as I progressed through the goals

Hi! The progress % shows the total progress over every possible color (256*256*256 = over 16 million!). So the % might not show because the number you have completed so far is so small in comparison. But I understand that it might be confusing that way. I'll try and clarify it or change how its calculated in a future update. Thanks for checking out my game!

Gotcha, thank you!

buy max buttons when

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll include that in the next update!

Hi Wayne! it looks kinda weird on my Firefox browser (not on Chrome). The prototype works fine so I'm not sure what the issue is. Great game tho :)

Thanks so much for letting me know! There seems to be a few issues with various browsers and even Mac vs. Windows that I was not expecting :S

Small cheat I found. Setting both Start and End colors to black means you finish the gradient immediately and get a prestige point.

Heh, I did not anticipate this :S I'll try and patch it out in the next update. Thanks for letting me know!

:P

Sometimes, I'm not sure what causes it, but the automation will just break when the bars are just about to fill up completely.

Is this because there are no more blocks that need that color? For example, if the gradient you are working on is black (0, 0, 0) to red (255, 0, 0) then you will never need green or blue. They will still fill up once, but not restart because there are no blocks that need its color. Does that make sense?

It's different from that, the bar stops filling before it is fully filled, and there is still plenty of the color needed. I can still get it to continue filling by pressing the manual button though.

Something similar happened to me a couple times. The color bar would stop moving with a chunk of black left on the bar. Hitting the manual tick button or upgrading the auto speed got it unstuck. It seemed to happen when the auto speed was at or above 128, and got more frequent the larger the pixel field became.

Oh! Very strange.. I'll have to investigate this for the next update. Thanks so much for letting me know!

You seem to have left in a debug key. Pressing 1 gives you one thousand pixel points, and pressing 2 gives you ten prestige points.

Yes, that was supposed to be a secret ;)

Something, um, broke in the Prestige Store; at some point I finished a level and the prestige points just started ticking upward. They went up about 3000 in the time it took to leave this comment.

Thanks for reporting the bug! I'll make sure it's fixed in the next update :)
